Arts are a fundamental element in the Waldorf curriculum. They are not only part of the subjects taught at school, but our whole teaching is supposed to be artistic, it is also called the art of education. All contents are experienced in an imaginative way, and teachers of all subjects use artistic activities in their classes. Our pupils paint with wax blocks and watercolours, the older ones also draw in black and white with coal pencils. All grades play theatre, work with poetry, make music and practice dancing or capoeira, which is a traditional Afro-Brazilian fight dance.

We don’t see Arts as a privilege of professional artists, they should be present in all human activities. Arts touch the heart and the soul, they motivate our students and make them love school and learning, so that we have a very low rate of absence and of students who give up school early, which uses to be a great problem in our social context.
