Already in the kindergarten, our children are in contact with nature, the soil and the plants, and all following classes include gardening activities in their curriculum. The pupils of class 2 create a little garden plot while the 3rd grade already plants corn and experiences the farmer’s work around the year. In the 5th grade we have a whole epoche dedicated to botany. From class 6 up the students regularely attend the gardening lessons which are given by a specialized teacher. They work with vegetables and medical plants, construct bets, prepare the soil, produce organic compost and young fruit trees, plant flowers and cultivate earthworms. Finally the pupils learn some basic processing techniques, like drying fruits, recycling paper or producing clay bricks.
Living in a rural region and environmental protection area, learning modern skills of horticultural work is highly important for our children. The farming methods of the families can be improved and the students get prepared for a possible profession, facing the growing demand of organic products and sustainable farming. |
