You can find the Escola Rural Dendê da Serra half way between the cities of Itacaré and Ilhéus, in the South of the Brazilian state of Bahia. Being the first Waldorf school in this state, it offers a rich and motivating education to children of local families, from kindergarten up to 8th grade. The school is situated in a nature protection area with clean beaches and Atlantic rain forests and surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Most of the families (over 80 %) have a very low income and cannot afford to pay a school fee. Therefore, our association Associação Pedagógica Dendê da Serra has the challenging duty to collect the necessary funds to run the school.
