Being of fundamental importance in Waldorf pedagogy, music is part of our curriculum from the kindergarten up to the 8th grade. In the 1st grade the children learn to play recorder, advancing throughout the higher grades and eventually playing the four types of recorders. From 4th grade on they learn to read notes. Rhythmical exercises and percussion instruments help to compose a more complete musical education. The children start to sing very early and end up singing canons and pieces in different voices. Little performances for the other classes, the parents or the village community help to keep the children motivated. Pupils who are interested in a deeper immersion can come to extra classes in chamber music (recorder quartet), guitar and violin lessons. |
