DENDÊ DA SERRA & SERRA GRANDE COMMUNITY Joining efforts to achieve common aims   IIn June, our school has had several opportunities of participating in events and actions in the village of Serra Grande, joining the community in the struggle for improvements towards a more harmonious development of our region. IIn order to revise the development plan for our district, a DRP ( "Diagnóstico Rural Participativo" - a rural study with public consultation) has been undertaken, including the whole community and also students and teachers of Dendê da Serra school. Our gardening teacher Andrey was part of the team that realized the consulting. Another opportunity that motivated us to participate was a public event about the "Porto Sul" project, trying to inform the community about this government project that plans the building of a big seaport and a siderurgic industry district between Ilhéus and Serra Grande, causing terrible environmental impact in our rare and still preserved natural landscape, with a unique biodiversity and several nature protection areas.   The event was realized in the central part of the village and offered lots of information, together with cultural activities (theatre, music, painting...) Our teachers and students presented some music pieces to the public, including the song “Dinheiro não se come”, especially composed by our guitar teacher Pedro Ivo for this occasion. (08/08/2008)
